About Us
Solutions in Sight is a public education program of the nonprofit organization Braille Institute, whose mission is to eliminate barriers to a fulfilling life caused by blindness and severe sight loss. We provide an environment of hope and encouragement for people who are blind or visually impaired through integrated educational, social and recreational programs and services.
Founded in 1919, Braille Institute serves more than 75,000 people each year through our five Regional Centers and more than 350 Community Outreach locations in Central and Southern California. Our Web site and toll-free Assistance Service at 1-800-BRAILLE provide information and services to an even wider area. Braille Institute is guided by a dedicated Board of Directors, a Medical Advisory Board, and regional committees in Orange County, San Diego and Santa Barbara.
Our far-reaching enterprise is funded almost entirely by private individual and foundation contributions. Generous donors, community partners and the tireless efforts of more than 4,000 volunteers enable our staff of experts to provide training, programs and services completely free of charge.
